screen printing

What is screen printing?

Screen printing is a popular decoration method where ink is pushed through a mesh screen onto fabric. Each colour in your design is applied one at a time using a separate screen. It’s a great choice for bold, long-lasting prints—especially on bulk orders.

What types of items can you screen print?

We can screen print on a wide range of garments including t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, polos, hi-vis gear, tote bags, and more. If you’re not sure whether your item is suitable, just ask—chances are we can print on it.

Is screen printing suitable for one shirt?

Technically yes—but due to the setup involved, it’s usually not the most cost-effective option for small runs. For one-off or very low quantities, DTF printing is usually a better-value choice.

What file format do you need for artwork?

For the best results, we recommend high-quality vector files in .AI, .EPS or print-ready PDF format. We can also work with high-res PNG or JPG files (at least 300 DPI at print size).

What is the minimum order for screen printing?

There are no minimum orders, so you're welcome to print as few items as you like. That said, screen printing involves setup costs, and pricing is worked out based on the size of your design and the number of garments—the more you print, the cheaper it gets. It becomes most cost-effective at around 20 or more items with the same design. For smaller runs, we might suggest DTF or another method to keep pricing efficient.

How durable are screen-printed designs?

Very durable! Screen printing uses thick, vibrant inks that can last for years with proper care. It’s one of the longest-lasting decoration methods available.

How should I care for screen-printed items?

To extend the life of your prints, wash garments inside out in cold or warm water and avoid harsh detergents. Line dry or tumble dry on low heat. Avoid ironing directly over the print.

How do you calculate costs of screen printing?

Pricing depends on the number of colours in your design, the size of your design, how many garments you're printing, and the garment type. More colours = more screens = higher cost. But higher volumes = better per-unit pricing. We’ll give you a clear, no-obligation quote upfront so there are no surprises.

How do I know if my design is suitable for screen printing?

Bold designs with solid colours work best. If your artwork includes fine details, gradients, or photographs, we may recommend another method. We’re happy to assess your artwork and suggest the best fit.

Why is screen printing more cost-effective in bulk?

Because the setup is the most time-consuming part. Once the screens are made, printing each additional item is quick and affordable—so the more you print, the lower the cost per unit.

What are the best fabrics for screen printing?

Cotton and cotton blends are ideal. Polyester and other synthetics can work too but may require different inks or special handling—our team will guide you on the best garment choice.

Can you print on dark garments with screen printing?

Yes! For darker fabrics, we use a base layer of white ink (called an under base) to make your colours pop. Screen printing is great for both light and dark garments.

What’s the difference between screen printing and other methods like DTF or Supacolour?

Screen printing is best for large runs and bold, simple designs. DTF and Supacolour are ideal for small runs, complex artwork, or designs with gradients and photo-like effects.

Can I include multiple colours in my screen print design?

Yes, but each colour requires its own screen—so the more colours, the more setup and cost. We’ll let you know if your design can be simplified or if another method is more cost-effective.

Will the print crack or fade over time?

Not if you take care of it! Screen printing is one of the most durable print methods and holds up well with regular wear and washing.

What kind of ink do you use for screen printing?

We use high-quality plastisol inks, which offer strong colour and durability. We also offer water-based and eco-friendly ink options—just ask our team if that’s something you're interested in.
