What is Screen Printing?
Screen printing is a method where ink is pushed through a mesh stencil (screen) directly onto fabric. One screen is made for each colour in your design. Once it's all lined up and printed, the result is vivid, durable, and professional.
It’s the method most often used for bulk orders of:
- T-shirts
- Hoodies
- Polos
- Tote bags
- Tea towels
- Branded uniforms
When Should I Choose Screen Printing?
Screen printing is ideal when:
- You're ordering in larger volumes
(usually 25+ units) - Your artwork is 1–4 solid colours
- You want long-lasting results
- You're printing on cotton or cotton-rich fabrics
It’s the industry standard for:
- Workwear programs
- Staff uniforms
- Promotional merchandise
- School leavers gear
- Charity events and corporate giveaways
Key Benefits
- High durability – wash after wash
- Crisp, vibrant colours
- Cost-effective at scale
- Excellent for bold designs
- Works well with custom ink types (e.g. water-based, discharge)
Things to Know
- Setup fees apply — one per colour
- Not suited to extremely detailed or photo-style artwork
- Each print area needs its own screen setup
- Not ideal for small orders — we recommend DTF or Supacolour for low-volume or multicolour job
We have no minimum order, but due to setup costs, screen printing becomes more economical the more you print.
Care Instructions
- Cold wash
- Avoid bleach or harsh detergents
- Do not iron over the print
- Line dry for best results
Your print will stay bold for a long time if you treat it right.
Pricing Notes
Screen printing costs are based on:
- Number of colours in your design
- Size of the print
- Garment type
- Quantity
The more you order, the cheaper the price per unit
The fewer colours, the lower the setup cost
We’ll quote you clearly, upfront — and if screen printing isn’t the most cost-effective method, we’ll suggest a better option.
FAQ Highlights
Is screen printing suitable for one shirt?
Technically yes — but not cost-effective due to setup. For one-offs, try DTF or embroidery.
How durable is screen printing?
Very. Screen prints hold up better than most methods, especially on natural fibres.
What garments are best?
Cotton or cotton-rich fabrics work best. We’ll advise if your garment type isn’t ideal.
Can I print over seams or zippers?
It’s not recommended — printing on uneven surfaces can cause imperfections. We’ll help with design placement to avoid this.
